"It took some man a lifetime maybe to put some of his thoughts down, looking around at the world and life, and then I came along in two minutes and boom! It's all over."
His entire life he has only know destruction and it has had no meaning for him until he started to see the work he was undoing. He finally saw the construction part of the cycle. Many of us don't realize the bad and destruction we can do to the world, and that's why knowledge is so important, so we can be aware of things like that.

He finally starts to accept reality and is forced to face the real world, not the pretend world on television. This is important because his veiws on life and on the world are changing and he's starting to see the realness of everything. He's learning what life is really like.
"So now do you see why books are hated and feared? They show the pores in the face of life. The comfortable people want only wax moon faces, poreless, hairless, expressionless."
The people only want comfort and that has allowed the government to rule the way that it rules. They do not need a lot of enforcement because the people are made dumb by their own shallow happiness. Books threaten their happiness and remind the people what the world is really like.

It’s the process of independent thought that matters, more than the knowledge itself. It's important to know that knowledge is important, but without independent thought there would be no knowledge. People need to think freely to understand things and learn more.
"Ten million men mobilized," Faber's voice whispered in his other ear. "But say one million. It's happier."
The violence must be pretty horrible to believe that it's a happy thing that one million soldiers are being sent out, while they are also lying drastically about the number of men being put in danger.
